About JAIIB Exam
The Junior Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (JAIIB) is a flagship examination conducted by the Indian Institute of Banking & Finance (IIBF) twice a year — typically in May/June and November/December. It is mandatory for all clerical staff and probationary officers working in member banks of IIBF.
JAIIB consists of four papers:
- Paper 1 – Principles & Practices of Banking (PPB): Covers Indian financial system, banking operations, deposits, loans, KYC/AML, and customer service.
- Paper 2 – Accounting & Financial Management for Bankers (AFM): Covers accounting principles, financial statements, ratio analysis, and basic financial mathematics.
- Paper 3 – Legal & Regulatory Aspects of Banking (LRAB): Covers banking laws, RBI Act, NI Act, SARFAESI Act, IBC, FEMA, and consumer protection laws.
- Paper 4 – Retail Banking & Wealth Management (RBWM): Covers retail banking products, digital banking, mutual funds, insurance, and financial planning. (New paper added in 2023 syllabus)
Each paper carries 100 marks with a passing mark of 50. Candidates must pass all papers within the permitted attempts (5 per paper over 3 years). Passing JAIIB earns two increments and significantly improves promotion prospects.
About CAIIB Exam
The Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB) is an advanced-level examination by IIBF, designed for officers who wish to deepen their banking and financial management expertise. CAIIB is a prerequisite for senior management promotions in most public sector banks.
CAIIB consists of four papers under the new 2023 pattern:
- Advanced Bank Management (ABM): Covers statistics, economics, HRM, credit management, and advanced financial analysis.
- Bank Financial Management (BFM): Covers international banking, forex, treasury management, risk, and balance sheet management.
- Advanced Business & Financial Management (ABFM): Covers project finance, corporate credit, capital markets, and financial restructuring.
- Banking Regulations & Business Laws (BRBL): Covers RBI Act, Banking Regulation Act, FEMA, IBC, tax laws, and compliance.
Passing CAIIB earns two increments in addition to JAIIB increments and is essential for promotion to Scale III and above in most public sector banks.
